Lot:277 , Confederate Kenansville Artillery Short Sword
Description:
Confederate Kenansville Artillery Short Sword is one of the rarest short swords for the Confederate collector to find in any condition. This pattern is attributed to Louis Froelich's Wilmington Sword Factory and later, the Confederate States Armory at Kenansville, NC. The blade has a lot of edge nicks and rust as seen in the pics, and the tip is slightly rounded. It was originally intended to kill or maim charging cavalry horses, but the Civil War weaponry rendered such a use impractical. It was likely used more often to clear fields of small trees and brush for the artillery resulting in edge wear. The brass has a deep, untouched patina. This sword is guaranteed all original and has not been cleaned.
Total length (inside scabbard if present) : 23 3/4", Blade length : 18 1/2". ~~ DEAR BIDDERS, Please View More Detailed Close-Up Images by visiting our website - Sofedesignauctions.com ~ Thank you ! ~~~~~~.
