An Outstanding Quality 17th C. Italian or Spanish Rapier Sword with Chiseled Hilt Decorations. A truly wonderful example of the early European rapier, featuring massive double-shelled guard with fantastic chiseled steel battle scenes and castles, a very detailed disk inside of the guard and hidden ricasso retaining its original leather cover, grip of one flat and one twist wire bondage. Mounted with a very long and elegant double edged blade with deep fuller to each side, struck "INTEDOMINE SPERAVI" on each side, roughly translating to "In Lord lays our Hope". A beautiful and rare weapon, fit for a Nobleman of the late Renaissance era. Total Length (inside scabbard if present) : 48", Blade Length : 40 1/4"
