Very Fine 18th C. Islamic Turkish SHAMSHIR Sword with Gold Inlaid Wootz Damascus Blade. An exceptional specimen of the Turkish warrior’s Shamshir battle saber, having richly gold inlaid mounts and lovely translucent horn grips of traditional pistol-shaped pattern. Mounted with a deeply curved single edged blade of most actively patterned Black Wootz steel, showing "Steps of Allah" pattern, both sides inlaid with multiple gold cartouches depicting a maker’s name and other Islamic decorations. In its leather bound wood scabbard with gold gilt brass mounts chiseled with delicate decorations.Sword is 39 1/4", blade is 33".
