Rare 16th-17th C. Musketeer’s Rapier Sword, French, Spanish or Italian. A very fine and unique example of the early European rapier, most likely carried by one of the Musketeers of the King’s army, with its quite unique Iron hilt mounts featuring chiseled and cat steel decorations and fine braid wire grip. Mounted with a large and sturdy double edged blade of diamond cross-section for most of its length, having a central fuller to the lower blade area. It is a truly special and high quality specimen of a rare and possibly unique pattern and exceptional built. Sword is 45", blade is 36 1/2".
