Fine 17th-18th C. Italian or Spanish Cup-Hilt Rapier Sword. A good large and early example with its steel hilt mounts having etched decorations of war trophies to the cup-guard and featuring a most beautiful brass and steel braid wire grip topped with very elegant fluted pommel. Wearing a strong double edged thrusting blade of diamond cross-section. Grip with an old Museum inventory number tag still present.Sword is 52", blade is 44".
