Antique Japanese & World Weapons AUG. 29th
Lot 463:
Attractive Polish Winged Hussars Helmet of 17th C. English Lobster-Tail Style. A very nice example of strong well-forged steel, having a distinctive but seldom encountered pattern. Most likely of Polish origin, of the type used by famous Winged Hussars, but could possibly be a variation used by Cromwellian officers during the English Civil War. Having fully articulated lobster tail neck-guard and large pierced ear-flaps. Also featuring an adjustable nasal guard which slides through the visor and a seldom encountered ringed top instead of the more common spike. Inside shows blackened finish and later leather strips holding the ear pieces. A very handsome and well-displayed piece.
