Rare 19th C. Mughal Indian TULWAR ~ SHAMSHIR Sword with Spectacular Damascus Blade. A strong fighting saber of the Mogul warriors, wearing a sturdy curved blade with an extensively thick spine and broad double edged tip area, bearing a struck maker’s mark to the lower ricasso. Blade is of superb quality by a master blacksmith, intricately forged of complex multi-layered Damascus steel, showing fantastic deep patterns throughout its length. Mounted with a large iron hilt of traditional form, profusely overlaid with rare style silver work, having floral motives with delicate gold gilt elements. Note a very unusual knuckle-bow design with a claw or a bird-like protrusion. A very attractive example overall with a State-of-the Art forging job on its strong and deadly blade.
