Very Fine 18th-19th C. Islamic Ottoman Turkish SHAMSHIR Sword, Gold Inlaid Wootz Damascus Blade. A truly beautiful example of the Ottoman warriors Shamshir saber, in its iron furniture decorated with silver Kofgari work, mounted with a set of lovely horn grips of the traditional pistol-shape form. Wearing a very elegant deeply curved blade of fine Wootz steel, front side with 7 cartouches containing Islamic scripts, possibly the Names or Koranic passages, middle of the blade adorned with a lengthy passage along the spine which most likely to include the manufacture date of this superbly made Ottoman warriors weapon.Sword is 37 3/4", blade is 32".
