Fine 17th-18th C. Italian or Spanish Cup-Hilt Rapier Sword. A good large and early example with its steel hilt mounts having etched decorations of war trophies to the cup-guard and featuring a most beautiful brass and steel braid wire grip topped with very elegant fluted pommel. Wearing a strong double edged thrusting blade of diamond cross-section. Grip with an old Museum inventory number tag still present. Total Length (inside scabbard if present) : 52" Blade Length : 44".
