Unusual 17th C. Dish-Hilt Rapier Sword, French Spanish or Italian. Early example with its iron hilt mounts featuring heavily worn figural details and very distinctive pierced dish-guard, the wooden grip is bound by one layer of twisted steel wire. Mounted with a double edged large fullered blade, which may have or may have not contained the maker’s name inside the fuller, now with heavy pitting and wear throughout. An interesting early variant of seldom encountered pattern. Total Length (inside scabbard if present) : 41 1/2", Blade Length : 35".Detailed condition reports are not included in this catalog.
