Rare 17th C. Italian Cut Steel Hilted Rapier Sword. A scarce and seldom encountered example, having elaborate chiseled steel hilt mounts with open work to the guard and pommel, with its very fine braid grip of silver coated brass wire. Wearing a sturdy double edged blade of hexagonal cross section for most its length, the lower blade with a large fuller struck with a series of 14 parallel "I" markings to each side, topped by the traditional Lilly marking at the end of the fuller, frequently met on most European blades of 16th-17th century.
