Lot 314:
Large 1840s-1850s English Bowie knife by "J. Walters & Co. Globe Works, Sheffield" ~ Fine Carved "DUKE OF WELLINGTON" Grip. Predating the American Civil War era but most definitely used through the war, having an exquisite carved grip with an interesting bust pommel, the figure is almost certainly the Duke of Wellington who was the most famous man of his day after Napoleon. Mounted with a very large broad blade of very unusual configuration, being flat on one side and having finely worked spine to the other, showing well preserved struck maker’s logo to the front. Total Length (inside scabbard if present) : 16 1/2", Blade Length : 10 1/4"
