Unusual 18th-19th C. Russian or Austro Hungarian Pioneer Short Sword. A massive short sword for a pioneer or a sapper, showing strong Eastern European characteristics, in its gilt brass mounts with a lovely carved wood grip bound by twist brass wire. Mounted with powerful broad blade having a very thick saw-back and a double edged tip. In its brass mounted leather over wood scabbard. A very interesting and almost never encountered early example. Total Length (inside scabbard if present) : 25 3/4" Blade Length : 18" Blade width : 2 1/4". Detailed condition reports are not included in this catalog.
