Rare American Civil War period US Cavalry Officer’s Presentation Sword ~ Name Plaque Removed. A beautiful and rare example with its gilt brass furniture, silver grip and blued steel scabbard. Large curved wide-fullered blade profusely etched with unusual geometric and patriotic motives, ricasso having a faint maker’s logo inside oval frame. The scabbard would originally have a Presentation plaque which was most likely removed by the family, or may have been made of gold and was sold for scrap by one of the sword’s previous owners. Rare and exceptionally attractive Large example with Cherubs and Angel face mounts, seldom encountered on such weapons. Total Length (inside scabbard if present) : 44" Blade Length : 35 1/2".
