Fine 17th C. french Spanish or Italian SWEPT-HILT Rapier ~ Musketeer’s Sword. A large example of a scarce style, having its complex multi-barred guard with ball decorations to each branch. Original wooden grip retaining most of its original twist and braid wire bondage. Wearing a sturdy long double-edged blade of diamond section, having three short fullers to the rectangular ricasso part. A very good and seldom encountered example of these elegant but very battle-worthy weapons of Renaissance era. Total Length (inside scabbard if present) : 47 1/2" Blade Length : 41 1/4".
