Zhdem s pobedoi! [We Are Waiting for Your Victorious Return!], a poster by Nina Vatolina (1915-2002). Published by Iskusstvo, Moscow-Leningrad, 1945, 86 x 57 cm.Vatolina is one of the few Soviet female poster artists who are well known for their wartime propaganda posters. Aside from her obvious talent (Victor Deni talked of her as his best student), this may be due to the fact that many established Soviet female poster artists spent most of the war in evacuation, working for fairly obscure local publishers. Vatolina was also evacuated to Central Asia with the Moscow Art Institute, but upon graduation in 1943, she defied the ban on travel during the war, returned to Moscow, and found employment with Iskusstvo, the largest publisher of the propaganda posters at the time.
