Lot 165:
These American nautical canes were made by mariners to while away the time on long voyages and often given as "love tokens to the ladies" of the ports that their vessels put in too. This fine example is constructed from vertebrae sections from the spine of either a shark or a ray that are then threaded over a central metal core. The handle and ferrule are of silver and the decorative spacers towards the handle of the cane are of silvee. The cane is in good vintage condition with only the usual wear to the vertebrae but with no missing segments. The silver sections are engraved with owner’s initials and place name. A true outsider art conversation piece that is beautifully executed. 35".~~ DEAR BIDDERS, Please View More Detailed Close-Up Images by visiting our website – Sofedesignauctions.com ~ Thank you ! ~~~~~~.
