Large 16th-17th C. European SCOLDERS BRIDLE Torture Device Iron ”MASK of SHAME” of Boar Head Form, Neck Collar with Locking Device. Probably English or German, French Examples also Known. Provenance : Ripley’s Museum. Size : 19" tall, 24 1/2" long.The “Mash of Shame” (Scolder’s Bridle) – a tool of torture, invented in Britain at the end of the XVI century. The first mention of this device is a reference made of torture in 1567.
