Scarce High Rank Colonel or Major Japanese Army Cavalry Kyu-gunto Battle Sword. Marked 4 to a Tokyo Army Arsenal. Field Grade fully decorated backstrap indicating rank of Colonel/Major. Premium sharkskin/shragreen grip (instead of normal same/rayskin). This is a kyu-gunto, not a dress sword. 26 1/8" nagasa (66.3 cm). Murata-to type blade. 4 stamped kanji on nakago ‘Tokyo Army Arsenal’.
