Original Civil War period " Off For The War " 1861 color lithograph by Currier & Ives. Soldier in uniform standing in gate of yard embracing wife with son at his side embracing both. 16" x 12"Currier & Ives published several versions of “Off for the War, ” and a companion print, “Home from the War.” In this edition, the soldier, who wears a simple uniform and has his sword nearby, embraces his family in front of their respectable home. Many of the prints published by Currier & Ives during the Civil War focused on the family.
