American Joe Waano-Gano Drawing. Size: 23 3/4" x 19 5/8" with frame; 16 1/4" x 12 3/8" without frame. Joe Waano-Gano (1906-1982) was born in the US. He is a native American artist with a prestigious career in California in the 1930s and 1940s. Born a Cherokee Indian (his name means "Bow-Arrow"), Waano-Gano studied with Christian von Schneidau in the 1920s before exhibiting widely in the 1930s and 1940s. Waano-Gano won a series of medals and prizes, painted murals in the Los Angeles General Hospital, and promoted the native art of the American Indian.~ .
