The Tokugawa clan mon, or emblem, is a three-leaf hollyhock design that is widely recognized in Japan. The mon is also known as the "triple hollyhock" or "aoi". The "aoi" actually belongs to the birthwort family and translates to "wild ginger".

In Japanese culture, the character "mon" represents the beginning and end of things, and the portal from one moment to the next. Mon are used to decorate and identify individuals and families. In traditional Japanese formal attire, the wearer’s mon is usually displayed.

Maeda clan (Maeda-shi) was a Japanese samurai clan who occupied most of the Hokuriku region of central Honshu from the end of the Sengoku period, their Mon represents a symbol of the importance of standing together and having strong defenses against any external threats.
