People’s Artist of the RSFSR (1955). People’s Artist of the USSR (1963). Laureate of two Stalin Prizes of the second degree (1943, 1951).During the war years, Nikolai Zhukov created his best propaganda work, full of patriotism and courage. One of the first military posters "Defend Moscow!" (co-authored with V. S. Klimashin) became a true masterpiece of Soviet art during the war. In October 1941, artists painted the famous poster in one night. In the morning they took the poster to the publishing house – it was accepted and after a few days pasted up on all the streets of the capital. On it, in full growth with a rifle in his hand, a Red Army soldier is depicted calling to stand to death – to protect Moscow from invaders. The drama of the moment is emphasized by the harsh intense coloring and the snow that creeps at the feet of the monumental figure of a warrior-defender reminiscent of an epic hero.
