A museum-quality antique Turkoman Turkmen silver gilt Quran (Koran) kamea cheikel leather pouch, 19th-century, from the Tekke tribe in Central Asia.
The rectangular brown leather pouch is exceptionally well made by a skilled Turkmen silversmith. It features silver, gold-gilded panels engraved with typical Tekke volutes and carnelian stones. The large front panel has nine oval-shaped carnelian stones set in raised settings. The pouch’s leather strap is decorated with five gilt silver rectangular panels that are engraved with typical Tekke volutes. These panels are also inset with oval carnelian stones that are raised and enriched with silver studs.
