Pre Columbian, Veracruz, Aztec culture 1300 CE – 1521 CE. Basalt stone face mask with open eyes and gritting teeth. Probably a ball player carved from a grey Basalt or Andesite volcanic stone. Highlights of icy blue or white pigment to the eyes and mouth.
It is Without Question AUTHENTIC.
Condition: some old stucco or soil to surrounding areas and crevices. Above both ears and slightly forward is a decorative carving possibly reflecting the helmet or hairline. The mask is drilled above both ears with large conical holes and drilled to the top center with a single large drill.
