Model 1840 Foot Officers Sword Presented in American Civil War to Lieut. H.J. Reed of Massachusetts 2nd Heavy Artillery 1863. Earlier sword presented to a Mass. 2nd Heavy Artillery officer during the American Civil War, inscribed and dated 1863 on the folding guard. In its gilt brass mounts with a straight large fullered blade bearing partially worn etched decorations. Grip with partial remained silver wire. Interesting example, probably passed down from father to son.
