Rare 19th C. Russian Caucasian Shashka Sword in Niello Silver Mounts & Damascus Blade. A very nice example of the Asian type, in richly decorated Niello silver mounts retaining some of its original gold wash finish, top scabbard mount with extensive Islamic inscription to the back side. Mounted with a broad almost straight blade of traditional type, the rarity of the blade is its Damascus steel structure quite seldom encountered on the blades of Caucasian manufacture, showing active watered patterns well visible at areas of the blade. Housed in its leather bound wood scabbard retaining original belt with gold gilt niello silver mounts en suite to the sword.Sword is 39", blade is 29 1/2".
