Very Fine 18th-19th C. Persian / Syrian SHAMSHIR Sword. An exceptionally attractive example in its heavily gold inlaid iron furniture with inlaid horn grips and leather bound wood scabbard having a silver-wire "Steps to Allah" stitching, light old restorations towards the tip. Mounted with a very well balance deeply curved blade of fine Wootz damascus steel, one side with extensive gold inlaid Islamic inscription and large round cartouche. A very fine and elegant saber of seldom encountered quality for such type.Sword is 37 3/4", blade is 31 1/2".
